The Under 15 King’s Sevens team performed exceptionally well last week in the Auckland Secondary School Competition held at Avondale Racecourse.

Sevens 1

With seven boys away from the squad on Year 10 camp and two players having to withdraw the day before the tournament it was always going to be a challenging tournament for the team.

Many boys experienced their first full day sevens tournament and really felt the physical and mental demand of playing five games and backing up playing every hour!

Co-captains Jack Elliot (Year 11, Peart) and Trey Alatini (Year 11, Marsden) lead from the front all day, while Brodey Warren (Year 10, Peart) showed his blistering pace scoring many tries, even from long range. Aston Palmer (Year 11, Greenbank) and Freddie Forsythe (Year 11, Major) both had outstanding work rates and covered a lot of ground.

Our year 9 boys Te Rae Watene (St John’s), Levi Muagututia-Saipele (Parnell) and Kahu Cotterill (School) played out their skins against some much bigger boys and the team as a whole showed what true King’s Pride and nous is really about on the field against some big and physical teams, finishing 2nd in our pool.

Results:

vs St Paul’s 12-12

vs Tamaki 33-0

vs Tangaroa 28-0

vs Howick 27-24

vs MAGS 17-19 loss

Thank you to Paul Stanton for organising packed lunches and coaches Josh Levi & Wade Brunsden for their efforts.
