Year 10 English headed out to see the National Theatre of Great Britain’s Tony Award®-winning production of War Horse based on the beloved novel by Michael Morpurgo, at The Civic Theatre.

Year 10 English War Horse

The students have been studying a selection of war poetry and this powerful theatrical portrayal helped them to visualise some of the imagery that they have been exploring within the poetry.

The life-sized puppets created by South Africa’s Handspring Puppet Company were an absolute highlight. The story of Albert and his love for his horse Joey, is one that will help to generate many ideas for the students in their future English work.

Students said:

I was surprised by the horses. The sound and the movement were so vivid. I was moved by the whole story and the action.

Victor Tang (Year 10, Parnell)

I think that it was an incredible experience, all of the actors and mechanisms that were used to recreate elegant creatures were outstanding. Not only was there a clear and interesting plot, but they also did an amazing job at immersing the viewer into the action with the use of gunfire, and lighting effects. Overall, an incredible experience I will not soon forget.

Aden Urwin (Year 10, Peart)

Best play I've seen in my life.
