This was the 5th event in the ongoing National Road Series which has attracted the top Under-19 cyclists from around NZ.

Having been very competitive in previous events, both boys were hopeful of further strong results. In the end Tom Stephenson was able to improve on his previous General Classification (GC) placings and finish first overall in the Tour – a fine achievement. This result came about from consistent performances over all stages, including victories in Stage 1 and Stage 3. His victory in Stage 3 was the result of a 20km solo breakaway where he held off the rampaging bunch all the way to the finish.

Oli Fisher also performed very creditably, finishing 7th on GC and assisting Tom particularly in Stage 3 by controlling the chasing bunch to ensure Tom stayed clear to claim victory. Fine team-racing tactics by the King’s boys!

With a short turnaround to recover, both Tom and Oli then contested the Vantage Elite Road Nationals U-19 time-trial (TT) and road race over 12-13th February and finished in 8th and 9th place respectively.

The College congratulates Oli and Tom for stellar performances in both competitions.
