One of the dimensions of the King’s all-round teaching and learning philosophy is service, with students encouraged to discover how they can make a difference to those in need through service.

A group of four students has put this idea into action over the last couple of weeks with their initiative to write a letter to each resident of Epsom Village, a retirement village, in the hope of easing their loneliness during lockdown.

Annabelle Liang (Year 12, Taylor), Sebastian Kirman-Martin (Year 12, Major), Jojo Wu (Year 12, Taylor) and Johnnie Parris (Year 12, Averill) put pen to paper, writing a total of more than 90 letters.

“We decided that it would be really great to give back to the community, and though it would be nice to reach out to this group,” Annabelle said.

They’ve already had a bunch of replies, with one couple getting in touch via email to say:

“As older members of the community, we appreciate that your generation is facing a whole new set of challenges in the years ahead. So thinking of us and taking the time to write us a letter is very special.”

Well done team, for taking this kind and thoughtful initiative.
