King’s College students were happy to cap off a full week on campus last Friday afternoon with the House Athletics finals.

The top spot in the House competition was taken out by Peart on 840 points, followed by Averill on 753 and Greenbank on 680, and we saw a bunch of school records broken too.

Hanna Louisson Cup for Junior Boys Champion

Coming first in the 800m, 1500m and 3000m, with new records set in the latter two events, Peart House’s Jack Erikson (Year 10) took out the 2021 Junior Boys’ Championship.

Wigmore Cup for Intermediate Boys Champion

Averill’s Joseph Dunn (Year 11) leapt to the top spot in the Intermediate Boys’ Championship with first place in the 100m Hurdles (a new record set) and High Jump, and second place in the 100m and 200m.

Julie Ah Chee Cup for Senior Girls Champion

Siobhan Balle (Year 13, Middlemore/Averill) dominated the Senior Girls’ Championship, coming 1st in the 1000m steeple (new record), 1500m, 3000m and 300m Hurdles. Congratulations also to Suzie Kennelly (Year 11 Middlemore/Selwyn) who set a new record for Discus, and Sophie Williams (Year 12, Middlemore) who won the 100m and 200m.

J. E. Fagan Memorial Cup for Senior Boys Champion

With a record broken in the 400m and first place in the 800m and 1500m, the Senior Boys Competition was won by James Harding (Year 13, Greenbank). Head Boy Maikel Tuala (Year 13 Averill) dominated the sprints winning the 100m and 200m, while Zane Powell (Year 13, Peart) took out the 3000m and the 2000m steeple.
