King’s Premier Netball Squad had a great start to the holidays with a trip to Wellington. The new team was able to gain some great experience playing against some of the top New Zealand Netball schools: St Mary’s, Wellington East Girls and Marsden College.

As well as this valuable court time, the girls had an afternoon training session with Silver Ferns Captain Ameliaranne Ekenasio and Carla van der Merwe from Netball Smart. They learned a lot from these inspiring women and were able to draw from all of their expertise.

Thanks to ‘Netball Dad’ and MP Damien Smith, we were also lucky enough to spend an afternoon touring Parliament. This experience provided our students with the opportunity to learn more about the inner workings of Parliament and it was particularly interesting for us to hear the positive changes to female representation in this field over the years.

In between all the hard work, the girls were even able to squeeze in some sight-seeing and we finished off our trip watching the Pulse and Beko Netball teams during their training game. This was a real privilege as we were the only spectators, and it gave the girls a chance to see some of the best netball players in New Zealand in action. The team is now raring to go after all their pre-season training and are looking forward to a great year of netball!
