3 open teams and 1 junior team from the College performed extraordinarily well at the National Spanish Debating competition this year.

The top team (Conor Doherty [Year 13, Marsden], Andrew Yu [Year 13, Marsden], Alex Grant [Year 12, Peart] and Ethan Henderson [Year 12, Major]) had a superb first 2 rounds. However, when they came to compete against Kristin’s team, they lost by one point. This came as a huge surprise to the Kristin teacher and I - however, we know how debates can be sometimes. Our best placings were 5th in the Open category and 5th also for our junior team.

In regard to the “Best Speaker” competition, 2 of our students also made it to the final. Only 5 speakers out of the whole competition qualify for this. Raniera Whiu (Year 12, Parnell) and Ethan Henderson took a spot each. They both did extremely well with Ethan walking away with the trophy and praise from adjudicators (plus a $100 prezzy card). Overall, it was a fantastic day in which King’s was superbly represented and the students thoroughly enjoyed the event and learnt a lot from it.
