The Premier Golf team has had a very successful season, reaching the semi-final of the College Sport Auckland competition for the first time in memory.

The team  (Derek Peng [Year 12, Greenbank], Amy Han [Year 12, Marion Bruce], Ishaan Shah [Year 9, Parnell], Eamon Wairepo [Year 11, Averill] and Ryan Xie [Year 10, Averill]) achieved this by winning four of their five  games in the group stage, before progressing to a tough semi-final against Pinehurst (previous champions). This included a very close game against Auckland Grammar 1, with King’s winning by 3 shots. The semi-final was played over 18 holes at Pupuke Golf Club on Monday 28 March, with King’s only losing by 7 shots. Special mention goes to Eamon for scoring the lowest of the team on the day at 2 over par and to the team’s excellent captain, Derek Peng, for all his help.

The 2nd team has also had significant success (Sebastian McKenzie (captain) [Year 12, Averill], Rianne Li [Year 11, Marion Bruce], Chloe Lam [Year 11, Marion Bruce] and Grace Zhan [Year 11, Marion Bruce]), winning all their games in the 2nd division to finish top of the table, including a memorable 107-135 win against Auckland Grammar 2. My thanks go to Ms Nelson for managing this team.

Golf Academy has been very popular this term, with both groups at capacity. The Golf Academy is run by the Royal Auckland and Grange Golf Club (RAGGC), with students having two sessions per week – more information can be found on the College website. If students are interested in the Academy for Term 2, they should keep an eye out for an announcement on Schoolbox at the end of this term.
