The boys were required to perform a 2km erg assessment on the rowing machine which was followed by a series of seat races where they raced against other rowers in mixed combinations until the fastest rowers were identified.
Baxter McGillivray had a fantastic trial and managed to pull a personal best of 6 minutes and 18 seconds on the rowing machine. He backed that up on the water and was ultimately selected to race in the Boys U18 Quad and Boys U18 single for the North Island team.
The North Island team raced their South Island counterparts over two days at Lake Karapiro on the 28th and 29th of April. Baxter’s squad found the South Island crew to be tough adversaries and they finished 2nd in both races. In the single scull he managed to finish in 4th place.
The College congratulates our rowers who competed in the North Island trials, especially Baxter and his selection into the North Island U18 team.
