Last week the Art Department welcomed Artist in Residence Kate Hursthouse, who specialises in illustration, calligraphy and hand lettering.

Kate Hursthouse Residency Iii

Kate ran workshops with Graphic Communication, Design, and Art students, teaching them to create with materials ranging from brush pens, to balsa wood and ink, to calligraphy tools handmade out of soda cans and chopsticks.

It has been a pretty awesome experience being immersed in the school, working with the students and creating some artworks,” Kate said.

“Having the opportunity to learn a new and applicable skill directly from an artist was great. I’ve already used the skills I learned in my other subjects,”  says Year 12 student Gus Webster (School).

The Artist in Residence is an initiative paid for using the money raised by the annual King’s College Art Sale, organised by a dedicated committee made up of the Friends of King’s College.
