This was the second competition game for the team. Grace Joyce (Year 12, Taylor) was the newest member to make their debut for the team.

Girls Hockey 25 June 2020

The girls started the game trying to find their groove, being a couple of players down with sickness this week. After a couple of failed attempts again this week to get the ball in the goal, the girls managed to score. Scoring a goal seemed to make the team realise that they could score and the opening goal was followed by 3 more to round out the half. Scarlett Giffin Munn scored 2 goals, Rebekah Massey scored one and TJ Rusden Rowley scored her first goal (hopefully of many) for the King’s 1st XI.

Half time score- King’s College 4    Howick College 0

Thankfully the rain stayed at bay tonight, so they girls weren’t pushing the balls through a giant puddle, meaning they could pass longer and faster. Howick came out fighting in the second half, determined not only to keep us out of their circle but also to try and score a goal. Grace Joyce, in her first game as goalie, saved some great shots from the opposition including a couple of penalty corners that came at her hard and fast. Finally, Howick managed to get one past the line bringing the score to 4-1. King’s ramped up the pressure, realising they didn’t enjoy being scored against, and Sabrina Hall scored after a great team effort through a well defended circle.

Full time score- King’s College 5   Howick College 1

For a team who is still learning how to play together and each other's strengths and weaknesses, the girls are doing well so far. There is still a lot of work that needs to be done but winning both games that they have played is a good morale boost for a team who will continue to go from strength to strength as the season progresses.

Next week the team will take on Mount Albert Grammar School at King’s at 5.00pm.
