Greenbank house recently spent the day at Tamaki Estuary clearing rubbish and as Year 13 Eddie Scott reports, the experience was rewarding for both the community and the boys.

The Greenbank beach clean-up in conjunction with Sustainable Coastlines on March 13 was a huge success. With around 80 boys turning up to help along with some eager parents, a massive amount of rubbish was picked up at Tamaki Estuary as part of a series of clean-ups across Auckland that day. Around 40 bags full of rubbish were collected containing what ranged from glass to plastic packaging and even a couple of chairs!

Clean-ups like these are so important in ensuring Auckland’s harbour and coastal areas stay clean and unpolluted, protecting our marine life from the impacts of single use plastics and other consumables. It was a perfect sunny day and a great way to enjoy the summer sun while it lasts. Also, a plus was that all the boys were treated to free ice cream courtesy of Ben and Jerry’s afterwards.
