The King’s Cycling Club has competed in three Team Time Trials (TTT), one Points race, and one further Road race during Term Two.

Cycling

At the time of writing we are preparing for the fourth Team Time Trial and beyond that the North Island Championships in Cambridge.

The squad lost three of our carry-over Year 13 riders from last year, which together with injuries sustained as a result of an incident in training, meant that the Senior Boys team has been significantly depleted and it has been a challenge ensuring that we have a full team to turn out at the regular events. While they have finished in the top ten of the TTT’s consistently we would regard this as an average level of performance and would hope to improve in the second half of the season when our two injured riders return to full fitness.

On a brighter note we have three girls cycling this year which has enabled us to enter a composite Senior Girls team with one of two riders from St Cuthbert’s College. All of the girls have at least another season with the squad so this term has been about establishing some experience and base fitness as a platform to lift our performance ahead.

The Junior boys squad has been an area of strength with some new Year 10’s coming into the fold generating competition for places in the Junior A team. This has resulted in that team featuring regularly in the top 6 of the TTT and the goal by the end of the season would be for them to threaten the podium (top three). Meanwhile the Junior B team has continued to improve their performance and would look to finish in the top dozen teams in TTT by the end of the season.

Overall it has been an encouraging season to date and we look forward to lifting the level of performance and encouraging further participation in the sport over the rest of the year.
