1st XI vs St Peter's College: Dickson and Abbas stifle Rosmini in rain-affected encounter

On a rain anticipated day, Rosmini had no hesitation in asking King’s to bat after winning the toss. Intermittent rain resulted in King’s enduring three stoppages in their innings and lunch was taken after the 16th over with King’s on 46/2. After lunch the umpires advised that the match was reduced to a 31 over encounter and King’s had to readjust once again.
Earlier, Muhammad Abbas was removed in the 8th over with the score on 19/1 and Dimithri Gallage joined Nathan Robinson with the hope of building a match defining partnership. Robinson was beaten in the 12th over with the score on 32/2 and Achindra Molamure continued the mission to reverse a sequence of two consecutive losses against the hosts. This pair built a small partnership up to the third stoppage in play when lunch was taken.
They resumed after lunch and the partnership blossomed until Gallage unnecessarily played an extravagant drive to be caught at mid-off, bringing the 45-run partnership to an end in the 22nd over. The skipper Cory Dickson joined Molamure and together put on an enterprising 42-run partnership before the latter departed for a well struck 34 runs. Dickson continued untroubled to the end to be not out for 35 off 28 balls, a probable match-winning innings helped by lightning cameos from Patrick Maher's 16 off 6 balls and Sebastian Macdonald's 14 off 5 balls. Rosmini was set a target of 207 to win in 31 overs as a result of Duckworth Lewis coming into effect.
King’s opening bowlers were punished as Rosmini raced out of the blocks as the top three batsmen smote anything short to the boundary. The usually efficient King’s fielders seemed perplexed and lacking in clues but a massive telling-off by the coach during the drinks break saw a change in attitude. The bowlers were more disciplined and with a fair bit of luck King’s gained the ascendancy from a worrying 56/1 in the 9th over to 103/5 in the 20th.
Nick Tapper, who came into the attack in the middle overs, continued to show his knack of picking up wickets whilst Toby Irvine went wickless in spite of a magnificent job putting the brakes on the Rosmini charge. Dickson and Abbas mopped up the tail – the former with a fair bit of luck and the latter with his usual efficiency and zip. After four wins on the trot, King’s host Westlake in a top-of-the-table clash, next Saturday.

King’s batted first and made a healthy 154/6 off 20 overs with 64 extras.
Max Jacobson looked the best with the bat some good foot work with well place strokes.
Unfortunately dropped catches and poor fielding enabled Macleans to secure the win with 10 balls to spare. Pick of the bowlers were Bailey Harris and Himnish Patel.
