Athletics champs go regional

A team of 46 athletes competed at the Central Eastern qualifying day on Wednesday this week.

The day did manage to break a wee bit of the drought with showers coming through Mt Smart Stadium throughout the morning.

The team acquitted themselves well with a number qualifying for the Auckland Champs that will be held March 25^th at the same venue.

A first for King’s College also occurred with the inaugural Intermediate Girls 4x100m relay team taking part and finishing 3^rd.

Intermediate Girls

Sophie Williams (MID) 1^st 100m; Siobhan Balle (MBH) 1^st 800m, 1^st 1500m, 3^rd High Jump; Maddison Prince (MBH) finalist in 100m, 80m hurdles

Senior Girls

Ruby Gibson (TAY) 1^st 200m, 2^nd 400m; Grace Penberthy (MID) 1^st Long Jump, 1^st Triple Jump; Jade Bowater (TAY) 3^rd Javelin

Junior Boys

Jack Erickson (PRT) 1^st 3000m, 1^st 1500m; Sacha Foenander (SCH) 1^st Long Jump, 3^rd 80m hurdles; Harrison Martin (SEL) 1^st Javelin; Kahurangi Cotterill (SCH) 200m, 300m, 80m hurdles finalist; Cassra Haghi (MAJ) 100m, 200m finalist; Kian Newman (MAJ) 100m finalist; 4x100m relay 2^nd.

Jack, Harrison, and Sacha have qualified for the Auckland Champs - possibly the relay as well.
