As a YES (Young Enterprise Scheme) student, I was invited to attend the New Zealand Business Hall of Fame gala dinner held at the Cordis Hotel, Auckland.

During the evening nine laureates from various business backgrounds from around New Zealand were inducted into the Business Hall of Fame.

This event recognises and celebrates individuals who have made a significant contribution to the economic and social development of New Zealand and their communities.

Past laureates have included Trelise Cooper, Alan Gibbs, Sir Peter Jackson and Dame Alison Peterson, to name a few. I had the privilege of introducing laureates David and John Bayley.

Brothers John and David are the second generation of Bayleys to successfully own and run Bayley Corporation Limited, and have been partners in the endeavour for 46 years.

Bayley Corporation has completed around $12 billion in sale and lease transactions, and through its property services division now manages a property portfolio of approximately $6 billion.

During their 46 years in the real estate business John, David, and the Bayley Corporation, have made significant community contributions – culminating in the establishment of the Bayleys Foundation in 2014.

The group’s philanthropic activities extend across charitable organisations, schools, universities, numerous sporting and cultural groups, and community activities.

I thoroughly enjoyed meeting the other YES students and learning about their respective YES enterprises. It was a great opportunity to meet and learn about some of NZ’s most astute business leaders. A truly invaluable experience.
