After winning the Formula Ford Championship, prodigal racer Billy Frazer (Year 13, School) has set his eyes on his next challenge - the Toyota Racing Series.

The Toyota Racing Series is New Zealand's premier "open-wheeler" motorsport category. Participating in this series has been a long-time ambition of Billy who is "super pleased to be now working towards that goal" after resounding success in the entry-level Formula Ford series earlier this year.

Billy has exchanged his Formula Ford for a Toyota FT-50 and has been making strong progress in accustoming himself to the new vehicle. Coupled with specialised strength and conditioning and his participation in the College's competitive cycling programme, Billy is in a good place regarding his race preparation.

Billy's efforts are already paying off, finishing with the best time amongst the FT-50 drivers at the recent official Toyota test day. As part of his prize for winning the Formula Ford Championship, Billy was also given the opportunity to test the FT-60 which became the new official open-wheeler for the 2020 Toyota Racing Series.

"I was the only rookie to drive this car and what an awesome experience it was. The cars are quite a bit different but there is no doubt that the testing in the FT-50 did prepare me for the drive."

Footage from the Toyota test day and an interview with Billy will be screening tonight (Tuesday 28th July) at 8pm on the Skyspeed show (Sky Sport 5, Channel 55).

The College would like to congratulate Billy for his continued success and wish him all the best in his preparation for this prestigious milestone.

"Once again, thanks for all your support of my racing up till now and I look forward to you joining me on the next part of my motorsport journey."
