Starting the season in the Open B grade the team comfortably went through the grade defeating all before them including competing 1st Xl teams from other schools and then topped that off by winning the final against St Kentigern 2-1.
With this result the team were promoted to the Auckland Open A/B grade with 1st Xl schools. The King’s 2nd Xl continued its winning ways and finished the round once again unbeaten securing a home final against Pakuranga College.
The final was played in atrocious conditions with heavy rain and wind. Both teams threw everything they had into the final. King’s were without midfield linchpin Amelia Alston (injured) and Emerson Dalziel (illness) but continued to harass the Pakuranga defence.
The winning goal was scored from a penalty corner shortly after half time by King’s College’s rising star Josie Brown who sealed the match and sent the home supporters and King’s team into raptures.
In winning the grade the school is now promoted to the Auckland Open A grade for 2023 (the grade our 1st Xl operated in last year until promotion to the Premier Inter-City grade).
So there it is, an unblemished season from the only unbeaten winter sports team in the school operating at 1st team level.
