Just to set the weather picture for the weekend, on Saturday the steel and iron pole-vault cover possibly weighing close to ½ a ton was lifted airbourne from the infield and thrown across the spectator fence and seriously injuring several spectators and delaying the meeting for an hour while ambulances attended and evacuated the injured,the meeting was very close to being called off.
In the senior boys 3000m final on the second to last lap the three leaders were caught by a strong gust and blown sideways into lane three. Sunday was much the same but along with the 50 knot gusts we had the added bonus of horizontal rain.
The team come home with five medals Zane Powell (Year 11, Peart) winning the Senior 3000m and 2nd in the Senior 1500m, James Harding (Year 11, Greenbank) 1st in the Senior 800m (an incredible feat by both these boys who are 1st year seniors and Year 11 boys competing against Year 13 boys).
James Ford (Year 9, Parnell) was 2nd in the Junior 800m and the 4 x 400m Relay team of Fergus McLeay (Year 13, Major), Oliver Dunshea (Year 13, Major), James Ford and James Harding 2nd in the 4 x 400m Senior Relay.
