This meant that for approximately 600 students (those new to the school in 2020 and 2021) and their families, this was their first Big House Music competition – and what an introduction to the tradition they got.
Packing out Henderson’s Trusts Arena the 3,500-strong audience was regaled by hosts Reverends Gareth Walters and Onosai Auva’a before seeing each House leave it all on the stage.
Judges Kirsten Scouller, Steven Rapana and Harmen Vanhoorne again scored each House according to their Style, Togetherness, Accuracy and Commitment, with St John’s taking out the top spot with their rendition of Price Tag by Jessie J.
“Great how everybody was involved!” said one of the judge’s comments, along with “Really well-chosen song for your group, filled with contrast and interesting musical moments.”
Hot on St John’s heels was Taylor House’s I Will Survive, followed by Greenbank’s Can’t Stop the Feeling.
With their Small House and Big House points tallied, Greenbank won the 2021 overall House Music trophy.
