Equestrian Success at the North Island Secondary Schools Show Hunter Carnival

Friday 6 June 2025

The King's Equestrian Team achieved some amazing results at the recent North Island Secondary Schools Show Hunter Carnival held in Cambridge, winning the overall team award.

Representing King’s on Sunday 25 May were Lexi Hope (Year 13, Taylor), Olivia Tongue (Year 12, Middlemore), Yun Fan Ling (Year 11, Parnell), and Monty Alderton (Year 10, Averill). All riders delivered excellent performances in their respective classes, with notable results from: Yun Fan Ling, who achieved an impressive 1st, 2nd and 1st and Lexi Hope, who placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd.

Their efforts contributed to King’s winning the overall team award at the event, a fantastic achievement in what is always a highly competitive field.

This victory continues what has been an extraordinary year for our Equestrian Team, who have now secured first place at four major events:

1st Place - Pegasus Cup (Coco Fougere (Year 11, Marion Bruce), Olivia Tongue, Yun Fan Ling ad Monty Alderton.
1st Place - NISS Dressage Carnival (Lexi Hope, Morgan Abel-Pattinson (Year 13, Taylor), Monty Alderton and Olivia Tongue
1st Place - NISS Dressage Championship (Lexi Hope, Morgan Abel-Pattinson, Olivia Tongue and Sam Sutherland (Year 11, Taylor)
1st Place - NISS Show Hunter Carnival (Lexi Hope, Olivia Tongue, Monty Alderton, Yun Fan Ling (11, PAR) – 1st

Along with these incredible results, it is worth noting how much this team consistently demonstrates not only skill and composure under pressure, but also exceptional sportsmanship. Their turnout presentation is always immaculate, and their teamwork is admirable, always supporting one another, assisting organisers with packing down gear and going the extra mile when needed. At the Show Hunter Carnival, when a power cut disrupted proceedings, our team stayed behind and manually calculated the results to help bring the event to a close.

It made me so proud of see this display of initiative and character from these talented students.
