Over the past year, senior student Yun Fan (Year 12, Parnell) has demonstrated exceptional dedication and discipline in the equestrian arena. His commitment to continual improvement, both in the saddle and through fitness training, has translated into an impressive series of achievements at regional, national and international level.
Last year, Yun was selected to participate in the FEI Sea Youth Camp in Cambodia, where he undertook an intensive workshop and training course designed to enhance both technical skill and equestrian knowledge. This opportunity, delivered through the FEI Solidarity Programme in partnership with the Cambodian Equestrian Federation, provided him with invaluable international exposure in a high-performance learning environment.
Further extending his experience on the global stage, Yun also trained and competed in Munich, Germany in 2025, alongside teammates from the Hong Kong Youth Team, an experience that has undoubtedly contributed to his growth as a rider. Yun has recently been invited back to attend this training in July 2026 for two weeks. Yun is the only young rider in this programme to receive full sponsorship for three consecutive years.
Competing aboard Caesar NZPH, Yun produced an outstanding list of results across the 2025 season, including:
- 1st place, 1.25m class – Woodhill Sands Fiber Fresh GP Show Jumping Show (December 2025)
- 1st place and 4th place, 1.25m classes – Taupō World Cup Show Jumping Show (November 2025)
- 1st place, 1.05m Show Jumping and 3rd place, 1.05m Show Hunter – NISS Equestrian Championships (August 2025)

- 2nd place, 1.05m; 2nd place, 1.15m; 3rd place, 1.10m – Barfoot & Thompson GP Show Jumping Show (February 2025)
More recently, Yun has taken on a second horse - Charmed Escudo - and is already achieving excellent results with this new partnership. Highlights include:
- 1st place, 1.20m Show Jumping – Taihape Area 67th Annual Show Jumping Championships (February 2026)
- 2nd place, 1.20m Show Jumping – Site Land Development Auckland Christmas Cracker Show (December 2025)
Finally, at the Takapoto Classic on Friday 20 February, riding his trusty Caesar NZPH, Yun won the Bridleways Estate Junior Rider Championship! This is an outstanding achievement, given it was his first year in Junior Rider, Yun said “I was just aiming for a double clear, Caesar is a really honest, straight forward and careful horse, he’s just a big friendly guy.”
Yun’s sustained success is a reflection not only of his natural talent, but also of his work ethic and passion for the sport. Balancing the demands of training, competitions and his academic commitments is no small task, and he continues to represent himself and the school with distinction.
We look forward to following Yun’s continued progress in the year ahead and have no doubt that he will continue to go from strength to strength in equestrian arenas during 2026!
