Badminton – New Zealand Secondary Schools
Kings Premier Badminton Mixed team competed in the Premier Boys grade at the NZ Secondary Schools tournament held in Porirua. The team had mixed results throughout the week. They had an exemption granted for our captain, Lillian Cao (Year 13, Taylor) to allowed to play in the boy’s competition.
The team finished 7th out of 32 teams. Oscar Wu (Year 11, Peart) was a standout winning his singles matches against much older opponents and Lillian consistently challenged her male counterparts in every single game she played.
Equestrian - New Zealand Secondary Schools Championships
- 1st Place Team Dressage and 5th Place in Team Show Jumping
- 1st Place Individual - Coco Fougere (Year 11, Marion Bruce) – Dressage & Individual Dressage Cup – Best Rider
- 2nd Place Individual - Lexi Hope (Year 13, Taylor) - Overall Show Jumping
- 1st Place Individual - Yun Fan Ling (Year 11, Parnell) – Overall Show Jumping 100-105
The Equestrian team spent their week in Taupo competing in the NZSS Equestrian Championship Dressage and Show Jumping. The team came away with 1st place for Dressage and 5th place for Dressage in the team category. In the individual events, Coco Fougere was 1st place in Dressage and won the Dressage Cup for the best rider. Lexi Hope and Yun Fan Ling competed in the 100-105 category with Lexi finishing 2nd and Yun Fan taking 1st place for Show Jumping.
Football – Rex Dawkins Cup
The First XI Boys Football team travelled to Whangarei to compete in the Rex Dawkins Cup. They faced a challenging pool and were able to come out on top with wins against Onehunga College and Kerikeri College and a draw with Long College. This saw them qualify to the knockout round with a routine 3-0 victory over Massey College.
In the top 8 play offs the team faced some tough opponents, falling short against Pukekohe High School but then winning their remaining two games against Long Bay College and Orewa to finish in 5th place.
Golf – New Zealand Secondary Schools
- 1st Place Individual - Ryan Xie (Year 13, Averill)
- 3rd Place Team – Ryan, Ishaan Shah (Year 12, Parnell) and Will Thompson (Year 12, Marsden)
The King’s Golf team travelled to Wellington for their tournament week starting with the team competition. They were second equal after the first day of play and finished third nationally overall with top performances from all golfers. In the individual champs, team Captain Ryan Xie led from the beginning to become the national winner in dominant fashion.
Hockey – Federation Cup
The First XI girls team travelled to Wellington to compete at the premier national schoolgirls tournament, Federation Cup. The girls had a tough loss early against Palmerston North Girls High School but rallied together to close out their pool play beating Christchurch Girls High School and Sacred Heart Girls. In the top 16 cross overs the girls drew with St Andrews Girls College 1-1 and just falling short in the penalty shoot-out.
The team won all remaining games to finish 9th out of 32 teams. Overall at the tournament they had five wins, two loses and were the 4th highest team overall for goals scored. This is the highest finish for King’s First Xl girls since NZ Secondary Schools moved to a national tiered process.
Hockey – Rankin Cup
The First XI boys team played in the premier national schoolboys event, Rankin Cup in Auckland where they won their pool with strong wins against Rotorua Boys High School, Shirley Boys High School and Wairarapa College.
In the top 16 cross over they lost against eventual semi-finalists Te Kura Māori O Ruamata 2-1. The team won their remaining games, including a satisfying victory over St Kentigern College who King’s had not yet beaten this year, finishing 9th in the tournament.
Hockey - Chris Arthur Cup
The 2nd XI girls team had a much-improved tournament from last year at the Chris Arthur Cup (national schoolgirls 2nd Xl tournament) in Ashburton. They had strong tough games against Rangiruru Girls, St Margarets College and Whangarei Girls but battled for a hard-fought victory over Craighead Diocesan School to finish in 8th place.
Netball - Premier Team
The Girls Premier Netball team had their best tournament on record equalling their result 2014 placing 14th in B grade out of 32 teams. The team put on dominant performances at the start by winning their pool play games with key victories against Rutherford College, Morrinsville High School and Te Kura O Manutuke College.
In the cross over matches they narrowly lost to Kerikeri High School, Botany College and Aquinas College but in their final phases of the tournament, they won against Orewa College to close out their successful campaign.
Rock-Climbing National Competition
- 7th Place – Daniel Zhu (Year 9, Selwyn)
Daniel Zhu travelled to New Plymouth to compete in the national Rock-Climbing competition. This was his first competition, and he just missed out on a semi-final placing to finish with a pleasing 7th out of 20 competitors.
Rugby - Under 15 Tournament
The U15 rugby team continued their unbeaten form in Whangarei where they won the tournament for the second year in a row with their fast paced and skilled game play. Strong wins against Whakatane High School, Massey High School, Te Kamo High School and Tipene College were all marked with 20+ point wins showing the dominance of the team.
