Tournament Overview

Inter-Schools Competition: McLeans Golf Course

After day one, we were in second place - 5 shots off the leaders who had an excellent first round. There were tough playing conditions on the second day, especially on the final 5 holes with freezing rain and sideways wind to battle against. At one stage, we were in first place but ultimately a lost ball and a number of bogeys pushed us down the field.

A great effort was put in by the whole team, who ultimately finished 4th in NZ, 1 shot behind Rangitoto College: Ishaan Shah (Year 13, Parnell), George Lewis (Year 13, Parnell) and Queenie Lang (Year 11, Marion Bruce).

U19 & U16 Championships: Harwood Golf Course

This three-day competition saw a number of King's students battling it out for the top award in NZ, including Lewis Kerr (Year 12, Greenbank), Daniel Fu (Year 10, Peart), Queenie Lang, George Lewis and Lucas Zhan (Year 10, Marsden).

On the final day, with wind gusts reaching up to 70km/h, play was forced to be halted for an hour during the field's opening nine holes before players were able to resume, with two of the four championships eventually requiring extra holes to decide a winner.

Shah prevailed on the second playoff hole to claim the New Zealand Under 19 Boys Championship!

Shah carded a one-over final round to finish at -2, while an opponent's one-under round also took him to -2 before Shah added the Under 19 title to his Under 16 win from two year’s previous in the playoff.

Charlie Tse (Year 11, Parnell) secured the New Zealand Under 16 Boys Championship, finishing four shots clear at nine-under-par, to also claim a dominant victory.

Tse closed with a one-under final round to reach -9, ahead of two opponents, who shared second at -5.
