Tuesday 8 September 2026
Held at Te Rauparaha Arena & Aquatic Centre in Porirua, Wellington, our Premier Badminton team played across two days at the 2026 NZSS Badminton Championships.
Staff attending: Michelle Farmouth
Day One
Disappointing losses today for this young team made up of four Year 10's and one Year 12 student.
Most games were super tight and could have gone either way as they went to three sets and setting in multiple matches however things changed considerably when we played Rosmini College where the boys took control early to get a convincing score-line of 5-1 to King's.
Day Two
Tough day today meeting the top seeds Rangitoto College.
This game wasn't about winning overall so to speak but meeting our own goals in each game and seeing how we could improve.
Games were tighter than expected in the doubles and Oscar Wu (Year 12, Peart) and Jas Zhan (Year 10, Major) nearly pushed the #1 doubles pair to three sets. Then the boys played well however went down 5-1 to the higher ranked team.
Our saving grace was the heroic efforts of Oscar Wu, who won against Rangitoto College number one player in three sets. He stayed calm and was the perfect example of what a young King's player should be like following our values throughout the whole match. A perfect example for the younger players in our team.
Another tough match in the afternoon meeting Macleans College, another higher ranked school. All matches were competitive with our #1 doubles pair showing real promise and going to three sets, but unfortunately just missing out on the win. Again Oscar Wu showed his strength and consistency grinding out a well deserved win which meant we finished with a 1-5 loss.
