Year 11 Bonding

Welcoming our new Year 11 Students

Thursday 20 February 2025

As part of the transition process for new students to King’s, the prefect team put together an activity afternoon that allowed our new Year 11 students (mostly girls) to meet with a group of existing Year 11 boys and break the ice. We gathered under the shade of the oak trees to spend some time getting to know one another and having some fun along the way. All the Year 11s were split into groups of 10 of 12, with a mixture of girls and boys in each group. The groups were then led by prefects who guided their groups through a series of interactive games.

First up was the name game, to learn names and become familiar with all the team members. Next was the hula hoop challenge where the team had to work together to pass a hula hoop along each without breaking contact and trying to beat the clock. The finisher was a very intense Rock – Paper - Scissors battle, which included everyone and saw all the students cheering on and encouraging their team members. It was great to see everyone so spirited and passionate in supporting each other!

“I enjoyed the integration activity because it was good to get to know other people in the year group. Even though already knowing a few people in my group I still found it good to meet others. The little icebreaker games were a good way to learn people’s names” - Middlemore House student.

The afternoon ended with sharing ice blocks under the shade of the oaks and taking some time to relax and chat with new-found friends. It was a great way to break the ice between girls and boys in Year 11 as well as introduce them to our Year 13 prefect team. We all shared many laughs, and it was truly a pleasure watching the Year 11s become more comfortable with one another and have some fun after a long day of school!

We hope to continue creating opportunities like this throughout the year, that allow students to connect and familiarise themselves with the entire year group as we work towards our prefect team goal of integration.

“Loved getting to know new people and play fun games, it was executed well.” - Selwyn House student.
