Year 10 Future Me, University of Auckland
Last week, eight Year 10 students attended the University of Auckland Future Me Programme at their city campus. The programme is great opportunity for tauira Māori and Pasifika students to broaden their minds in terms of future study and career options, including subject selection for transitioning into Year 11.
The University of Auckland offered a diverse range of engaging and interactive workshops facilitated throughout the day which was thoroughly enjoyed by our Year 10 boys.
Maiden Voyage – Yachting Services New Zealand, Informational Webinar
“In six months of travelling the world on yachts, I learned ten times more than I did in three years of drinking Speights in a cold, mouldy flat in Dunedin” Old Collegian Nick Jacobi (Averill, 2010–2014).
From the day that he walked out of the King’s College school gates for the final time, Nick went on to study and graduate from the University of Otago with a Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Marketing & Design. He thereafter worked in education and recruitment for some years before deciding to spend a few years sailing around the world …and has since, never looked back!
From that experience, Nick saw first-hand how super-yachting could be an amazing option for young people - getting paid to travel, gain life experience, and avoid the burden of big student loans while figuring out what they really wanted to do. He wished that he had known more about super-yachting as an option whilst at school. This knowledge motivated Nick, spurring him on to start Maiden Voyage Yachting Services – a way to inform and help students or young professionals break into the superyacht industry.
Nick’s informational webinar held in September, was conducted with a live audience in King’s Careers, was well attended by senior students keen to find out more about the superyacht industry and the opportunities that it offers to school-leavers. Any further interest or enquiries can be made by contact Nick directly via email: info@maidenvoyageyachting.com
