In the second hit out for the Theatresports team this season, the terrific trio of Trey Goodare (Year 13, Peart), Henry Dawson (Year 12, Selwyn) and James Floerchinger (Year 13, Marsden) gallantly contested an evening in the Lecture Theatre against a returning Auckland Grammar School side and Botany Downs College.
With a number of our regular participants out due to illness, the three seniors left standing took on the best of the rest… The momentum of the evening gathered as each team, cycled through ‘Story, Story, Die’ and then onto ‘blind round games’… Everyone’s favourite - ‘Paper’ - was picked off by Botany which put them in a strong lead, followed by us and then Grammar. But two superb, back-to-back games put us into strong contention.
‘Slow-Mo commentary’ - involving Trey Goodare as a sports show anchorman - saw him provide an exhilarating commentary on James and Henry’s competition as two rival dish-washers. While early questions surfaced as to whether they had in fact ever washed a dish between them, Henry and James didn’t let that bother them as they played the action out in slow-motion! Huge fun, but the facials from James stole the show!
Botany Downs regained the lead after a very strong ‘Open Scene’ that included a character challenged to speak in Shakespearean English and their final round required them to play a scene involving them saving the world (with the catch of only being able to say sentences made up of a certain number of words). This game seemed to make their lead unassailable but the King’s team smashed out the win with a daring game of ‘Puppets’ as Henry Dawson ‘moved’ Trey and James around the stage, in a scene involving them saving themselves from a collapsing tower… while musing on the philosophical implications of what was going on…
A win by just TWO points gave King’s the win and angles us nicely towards the business end of the season!
