Wednesday 30 July 2025
Subject selection for 2026 begins on Monday 4 August (next week in Week 3, Term 3). The Senior School Courses of Study Guide 2026 and the Junior School Courses of Study Guide 2026 are both available to view here on Schoolbox.
Geoff Smith – Deputy Head Academic, has recently spoken with student year groups explaining the subject selection process, so students should know what is required of them.
Prerequisites:
Most subjects at senior level have prerequisite levels of achievement that must be met to continue in a subject. A summary of these prerequisites is found on page 31 of the Senior School Courses of Study Guide.
Year 12 (based on Year 11 results):
- CIE AS Level: Students must gain a C grade or higher in a prerequisite subject in the Year 11 end of year examinations.
- NCEA Level 2: Students must gain a minimum of 7 Achieved grades out of 8 assessment points, one of which must be an exam standard or must gain a D grade or higher in a prerequisite subject in the Year 11 end of year examinations.
Year 13 (based on Year 12 results):
- CIE A Level: Students must gain a D grade or higher in a subject in the AS examinations.
- NCEA Level 3: Students must gain a minimum of 14 credits in a prerequisite subject.
If a student fails to meet the prerequisite for a subject, they may seek permission from a Head of Department to continue in a subject but please note there is no guarantee that permission will be given. in this case the student will need to select a new subject.
Key Dates:
- Monday 4 August: Subject selection begins. Students will be sent an email with a link to their “Web Preferences” page where they will be able to make their subject selections.
- Friday 8 August: Subject Options Evening
- Friday 15 August: All students should have entered their chosen subjects by the end of this day.
- Friday 23 January 2026: Subject Change Day. We ask students to give careful thought to their subject choice but inevitably, some will have a change of mind regarding their chosen subjects. Students are expected to attend in person on this day if they want to request a subject change so please take this date into account when planning any summer holidays.
