Lantern Festival

Student Perspective: Lantern Festival 2026

Wednesday 18 February 2026

On Wednesday 11 February, the Asia Committee conducted a vibrant, lantern-lit festival at the school in honour of Chinese New Year. The evening was filled with cultural performances, as the school community gathered to celebrate new beginnings and welcome 2026.

With a variety of decadent food stalls, dance groups and vendors, the event was well attended by students, families, staff and special guests. Additional entertainment was provided by volunteers, including face painting and traditional Chinese games, which the crowd responded to with enthusiasm and laughter. The courtyard radiated a warm ambience, embellished with colourful lanterns, symbolic tapestries and decorative Chinese opera masks inspired by Peking Opera, all of which were widely admired.

Through this celebration, the College's strong cultural spirit was evident, and a sense of unity made the evening especially memorable. Attendees were exposed to various expressions of Chinese history and culture, fostering appreciation for our heritage and traditions.

We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the many volunteers who supported this event, especially Asia Committee Coordinator, Jay Kim, and Committee Leader and main host, Jayden Wang (Year 13, Peart).

Thank you also to our main sponsors - 108 Tastes, Mrs Bun, A Rentals and A Plus Print & Banner. We are very grateful for their generous support.

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended the evening, and best wishes to all for the Year of the Horse.

Emily Yang (Year 12, Taylor)
