Last weekend our senior student leaders in Boarding from School, Middlemore, St John’s and Selwyn travelled to Palmerston North to take part in the New Zealand Boarding Schools Association (NZBSA), Student Leaders, National Conference/Hui. Our students were joined by approximately 40 other student leaders from boarding schools all around New Zealand. The conference/hui focused on personal leadership development and building capacity and competence in support of leadership.
On Thursday morning these students met with the Headmaster and Head of Boarding over breakfast to present back on the key learnings they took from the conference. Many ideas were shared including initiatives around integration between boys and girls, how to use study windows, tutoring models and much more. It was also great to hear from our student leaders that they felt lucky to be a King’s College boarder and that our boarding is well positioned nationally. Looking ahead, the College will be sending staff members to the upcoming NZBSA National Conference in Dunedin, and I look forward to these staff having a similar opportunity to engage with other experts in boarding as part of our ongoing professional learning.
