First Ever Southee Cup Won by King's Colts Cricket Team

Tuesday 9 December 2025

Our Cricket Colt team made up of Year 9 and Year 10 students are the winners of the first ever Southee Trophy after four exciting days of a cricket played in beautiful, sunny conditions here at the College.

With the tournament being made up of teams from Lindisfarne College, Hamilton Boys’ High School, Macleans College, Rosmini College and Westlake Boys’ High School. The travelling teams stayed at the campus and played all games on our fantastic grass cricket wickets and outfields which have been carefully looked after by our dedicated grounds staff.

The teams played against each other during the tournament with the King’s Colts remaining unbeaten over the first three days, eventually facing Lindisfarne College in the final yesterday.

The team batted well to set a score of 190 to chase. They were able to bowl Lindisfarne out in the 30th over for 75, winning by 115 runs. The tournament saw some wonderful cricket played between the schools with some excellent innings, partnerships and individual scores – including Hamilton Boys setting a target of 322 against Rosmini on the first day. There were also some incredible bowling spells and stunning catches during the games.

The Southee Trophy is named after our King’s College Old Collegian, Tim Southee (School, 2004-06), a New Zealand Black Cap legend who continues to inspire young cricketers – we were delighted to host these teams at the College and look forward to defending the trophy next year.
