King's First XI 2 - 2 Albany Senior High School
With top-8 playoff spots on the line, Albany Senior High came out flying, exploiting our team's fading legs and pinning us 2-0 down. With what felt like two minutes remaining, panic set in.
Then Holly Denby (Year 11, Taylor) launched a solo run, dribbling through their entire team twice before firing a shot that the keeper spilled into the net for 2-1.
Plot twist: a glance at the official clock revealed there were actually eight minutes left, not two! Cue Mr Mitchell screaming from the side-line with newfound life. Pushing every player forward, Brooke Rowntree (Year 12, Taylor) threw herself into a chaotic scramble in front of goal and bundled the ball home for a thrilling 2-2 equaliser!
A masterclass in pure grit. For holding the backline together through the chaos, Holly Tongue (Year 11, Middlemore) picked up a well-deserved Most Valuable Player, proving to be one of our best defensive signings of the year.
