Martin Wesley - New School House Assistant Housemaster

Thursday 8 May 2025

Martin Wesley has recently been appointed as the School House Associate Housemaster and will be working alongside Housemaster Robert Paterson in the Boarding House. Originally from the UK, Martin started working at King’s last year, bringing with him lots of teaching and boarding experience from his previous roles overseas. Martin is excited to take on this new role at the College and we are very pleased to welcome him into our Boarding community.

Tell us a little bit about yourself - I joined King’s College in January 2024, primarily as a Design Technology teacher, but alongside this role I have been the Associate Housemaster for Averill House and have been involved in school life through involvement with Rugby, Tennis and Debating. Moving to New Zealand has been a lifelong dream that has finally come true, and I have moved with my wife Carine - who works within the Learning Centre - and our dog Spuggie.

How did you get involved with Boarding at King's? During my last teaching post in the United Kingdom, I was fortunate enough to work as part of the boarding community and took on leadership roles within both boys and girls boarding houses. When moving to New Zealand I was eager to continue in this area and started doing cover duties within School House last year. When the opportunity to take on a permanent role presented itself, I was quick to apply and fortunate enough to be selected continue my work in School House and become part of their whanau.

What is the best part of your role? To select one aspect of this amazing role is a real challenge, but for me seeing the development of each student is so rewarding. To be part of this process is a privilege, working without standing team members to make the schooling and boarding experience as positive as possible for everybody involved. I look forward to developing my role within School House and continue to build strong and supportive relationships with the School House students and whanau over time.
