Eight of King’s College’s most talented art students recently had the extraordinary opportunity to showcase their skills at the inaugural We The Young Creative initiative, held at the Auckland Town Hall in collaboration with Auckland Council.
This dynamic event featured an ArtBattle experience, where each student had just 20 minutes to create an original artwork in front of a live audience - a thrilling and high-pressure challenge that our students embraced with confidence and creativity.
King’s College was honoured to be the only school in New Zealand invited to compete as a team, making this an especially proud moment for our arts community.
Representing the College were: Ella Zhang (Year 11, Taylor), Jesse Christensen (Year 12, Averill), Baxter Amosa (Year 12, School), Andy Zhou (Year 11, Major), Jamie Ye (Year 11, Greenbank), Mila Hrstic (Year 12, Middlemore), Jetta McKenzie (Year 12, Marion Bruce) and our school ArtBattle champion, Bella Hobson (Year 13, Taylor).
The students produced outstanding artworks under the spotlight, impressing both the crowd and event organisers. In a fantastic conclusion to the evening, all student pieces were purchased during the live auction - a testament to the calibre of talent that was on display.
The feedback from the public and Auckland Council staff members was resoundingly positive, with many praising the students as exceptional young artists who took bold creative risks.
This event not only celebrated artistic talent but also highlighted the power of youth creativity in shaping cultural spaces. Congratulations to all our participating students on this incredible achievement.
