First XI celebrating wicket

King’s First XI Secure Convincing Win Over Mount Albert Grammar School

Thursday 20 March 2025

The King’s College First XI delivered another dominant all-round performance on Saturday 15 March, securing a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over Mount Albert Grammar School (MAGS).

Winning the toss and opting to bat first in near-perfect conditions, MAGS struggled to gain momentum against disciplined bowling from the King’s attack. The opening powerplay saw MAGS restricted early, and they never fully recovered. Malcolm Barrow (Year 12, School)  led the charge with an outstanding spell, claiming 5 wickets for 31 runs off his 10 overs. He was well-supported by Ed Mitchelson (Year 12, Marsden) (1-12 off 7 overs) and Tom Nelson (Year 13, Marsden) (1-9 off 6.4 overs) as MAGS were bowled out for 159 in 48.4 overs.

In reply, King’s faced a brief setback with the loss of two early wickets but quickly regained control. A composed half-century from Oliver Kittle (Year 13, Parnell) (63 off 112 balls) and a steady unbeaten 68 off 94 balls from Tom Nelson anchored the chase. Returning captain Tom Boucher (Year 13, Greenbank) added a fluent 21* off 34 balls to see King’s comfortably reach the target in the 43rd over, finishing on 163-3.

The team will look to carry this strong form into Round 7 next Saturday when they face off against traditional rivals, Auckland Grammar School.
