Building Confidence in the Lab for Year 10 Students
One of the challenges we can see across Science classes is that students lack confidence when it comes to identifying and using laboratory equipment. This is particularly true for those who missed valuable practical opportunities during the pandemic lockdowns.
To help address this, some Biology students have been involved in a practical activity called Equipment Bingo. It’s a simple yet engaging way for students to familiarise themselves with key lab tools while working collaboratively. Using a Keynote template, students were tasked with photographing specific pieces of equipment and matching each one to its correct description.
Students enjoy the scavenger-hunt feel of the task, and many produced creative photos to go alongside their answers. At the end of the session, students come together as a class to review the correct matches, reinforcing their learning in a fun and interactive way.
Equipment Bingo can be adapted for different year levels and students can easily submit their work via Schoolbox. It truly is an activity which combines the fundamentals of Science and creative use of the iPad.
