Indoor Cricket Prevails in College League

Tuesday 3 November 2026

At the conclusion of the outdoor cricket season, there was an expression of interest amongst our junior boys in joining the Auckland Indoor Cricket League for Term 2 and 3. Quickly managing to scrape together a small team, they entered in the Division 1 College League as 'KC Premier Indoor Cricket'.

Their first game proved to be a tough match against Auckland Grammar School, losing by 85 runs. After the game, team Captain Daniel Templer (Year 11, Selwyn) arranged a handful of short training sessions for the team, realising not everybody was familiar with the rules of indoor cricket.

At times it was challenging to field a full team, with 17 King's players overall who were involved throughout the two terms. This was made especially tense knowing we were up against formidable opponents including Auckland Grammar School, Mount Albert Grammar School, Saint Kentigern College and Westlake Boys' High School.

In total, there were 14 regular season games. These boys won 8 of them, with their best win against a talented team from Mount Albert Grammar School 1XI during the round robin games!

After the regular season finished, the King's College boys were placed third meaning they would play a semi-final against the second-to-top ranked team to see who would play the top team in the final. Winning the semi-final 124-104, they went on to play the top ranked team in the final — Auckland Grammar School — on that same evening. AGS's finals team had beaten our boys in the first game by 85 runs, and were unbeaten all season as well as had won the other three fixtures against King's College by 8, 19 and 21 runs. Understandably, nerves were high.

Our drive and determination, however, was higher.

King's batted first, scoring a total of 99 before bowling and fielding well and strategically to restrict AGS to a score of 93. With this result, AGS had suffered their first loss of the season, and King's College had won the World Series Junior Indoor Cricket (Auckland) Division 1 Competition for 2026!
