The football season officially wrapped up at the end of Term 3 in the traditional manner with our annual House Football competition. The weather certainly played ball, and it was a great day of matches to round off the season.
Junior House Football
The matches kicked off on Friday afternoon, with Selwyn winning the eliminator 4-2 against School House helped by Niko Tipping (Year 9, Selwyn) scoring himself a hat-trick.
This meant the quarter-finals were set:
- Parnell vs St John’s
- Peart vs Averill
- Greenbank vs Marsden
- Major vs Selwyn
Victories for Parnell 3-1 over St John's and Peart House 2-nil over Averill meant they were to meet in the semi-final. On the other side of the draw, Major recorded a resounding win 7-nil over Selwyn, who were missing their hat-trick hero, while a tense game saw Marsden pip Greenbank 3-2 to take the final semi-final spot.
The semi-finals threw up some more drama, as both games had to be decided by a penalty shootout! It was Peart and Marsden who held their nerve to advance to the final.
And so, to the final. A repeat of 2025 lay ahead. Peart were looking to retain the title, whilst Marsden were looking for revenge. Peart struck the first blow and looked in control, but a heroic turnaround from Marsden saw them bring home the title after securing a 2-1 victory!
Winner - Marsden House
Tournament Most Valuable Player - Lachie Campbell (Year 10, Marsden)
Senior House Football
The competition started with St John’s squaring off against School House who were able to beat St John's 2-nil, with Jaxon Allan running the show!
This meant that the quarter-final line-up would be:
- Averill vs Peart
- Marsden vs Greenbank
- Major vs Selwyn
- Parnell vs School House
The favourites for each game got the job done with Peart winning 4-nil against Averill. Marsden 1-0 against Greenbank, Major 1-nil over Selwyn and Parnell beating School House 3-nil. Again, the semi-finals saw the favourites run out winners, with Parnell just pipping Major 1-nil, and Peart continuing their high-scoring form against Marsden with a comfortable 3-nil win.
And so, two new finalists for this season, and it didn’t look like there would be much in it. A controversial penalty awarded by the referee (myself) saw Peart convert and go 1-nil up. Into the second half, a long-range shot wrong-footed the Parnell keeper and it was 2-nil to Peart.
A quick response from Parnell saw them claw a goal back and make it a tense finish to the game. But it was Peart House who would bring home the title 2-1!
Winners: Peart House
Tournament Most Valuable Player: Henry Artrip (Year 12, Peart)
