Hockey Match Report: First XI Girls vs Macleans College

Tuesday 18 August 2026

King’s College First XI Girls Hockey have secured Premier Intercity placement for next season after a commanding 5–0 victory over Macleans College at King’s College on Thursday 13 August.

Determined to make amends for their 1–1 draw against Macleans in the opening round, the team dominated possession and territory throughout the opening half, applying sustained pressure to the Macleans defence.

Just before the end of the opening quarter, Luca Morton (Year 13, Taylor) capitalised on a penalty-corner clearance, striking cleanly to give King’s a 1–0 lead.

The second quarter followed a similar pattern, with King’s controlling the midfield through the outstanding work of Coco Alpe (Year 11, Middlemore) Alexis Tree (Year 12, Taylor) and Violet Liu (Year 13, Marion Bruce). Their dominance eventually paid dividends when Freddie Hatton (Year 13, Taylor) produced a sharp deflection to double the home side’s advantage.

King’s persistence was rewarded late in the quarter when Casey Halliday (Year 11, Marion Bruce) converted a penalty-corner flick to make it 3–0 at halftime, sending the vocal home crowd into celebration.

Macleans responded strongly in the third quarter, creating several promising opportunities and putting the King’s defence under pressure. However, goalkeeper Scarlett Morris (Year 13, Marion Bruce) stood firm, making several important saves, while defenders Coco Morton (Year 11, Taylor) and Samantha Sutherland (Year 12, Taylor) provided excellent support in front of her.

King’s soon regained control, and Casey Halliday struck again, firing a powerful field goal into the bottom corner to extend the lead to 4–0. The final quarter saw King’s continue to press for further goals, with Casey Halliday completing her hat-trick from another penalty corner to seal an emphatic 5–0 victory.

The result not only confirms King’s place in the Premier Intercity competition next season but also provides valuable momentum heading into the finals.
