Kia ora Parents and Guardians,

As we charge into Term 2 the students are already engaged in what is going to be a productive and busy time. One of the messages I was promoting last week is that it’s business as usual, we remain focussed on the College continuing to support our students to do their best during this new term and year ahead. As always, I have been very impressed with the students as they returned to the College last week.

This week ends with the Senior Ball, and I have been talking directly with the students about this event. It’s an important occasion in the school calendar and one that we do ensure tight arrangements and expectations for in order to provide a safe and successful event. I look forward to the Senior Ball every year and anticipate it will be another great gathering on Saturday evening.

We have also hosted the team from ERO this week as they complete a regular review of the College. We received exceptional reports in 2017 and 2021, so I look forward to highlighting the College structure, developments and successes again. I will be sure to share the report with you when it is made available in the coming weeks.

As part of our continuous improvement process, the Board of Governors and the Senior Leadership here at King’s College wish to survey parents, students and staff for their feedback on the College. This survey will be sent out to parents next Friday, you can read more information about it here.

I would also like to encourage parents of Year 13 students to ensure that they are aware of the university processes and entry requirements for universities in New Zealand and overseas. We are hosting New Zealand universities on Monday 12 May at our Tertiary Options evening and Australian universities will be represented at the College on Thursday 12 June. Last year around a third of our Year 13 cohort went direct from King's College to overseas universities and that figure is likely to increase. Riki Apa and his team in our Careers Department are well versed in the requirements for both the processes and the prerequisites and are available to support our Year 13 students through this process – you can never be over organised in this area!

I was delighted to be watching sport on Saturday and enjoyed many games on a beautiful sunny day. I really enjoy the winter terms for all the activity, including our community being able to witness and appreciate students and their achievements outside of the classrooms. We have our Small House Music competition tomorrow – you can watch the livestream here - with Big House Music looming quickly on Wednesday 21 May - tickets are now on sale

In all respects, our goal of providing the Best All-Round Education plays out during this term and next. I look forward to seeing you at the many events and occasions over the next few weeks.

Again, if you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to contact the College. I am always available on s.lamb@kingscollege.school.nz if you are not sure who to contact in the first instance.

I wish you well for the term ahead.
