It was a pleasure to welcome Floreat Semper members back to the College this week for their Spring Luncheon.
This loyal group of Old Collegians, former staff members and parents carries with it a deep knowledge of the traditions and history of King's, together with a network of friendship and camaraderie that has endured across decades. Their presence on site is always a reminder of how much of this place is built on the goodwill of those who came before us.
We were fortunate that Old Collegian Felicity Glenie (Middlemore, 1998-99) spoke to us about her career as a lead engineer on a number of the major civil roading projects underway around the country. Her reflections on leadership, the importance of teamwork and interpersonal skills, managing complex projects in demanding environments, and what all of this means for the workforce our young people will enter, spoke directly to the work we are doing to ensure King's students leave us genuinely ‘future ready’.
Felicity's visit is one small illustration of the networks our students are able to draw upon, and of the opportunity we have to extend those connections further through partnership with our wider community. A recent Round Square evaluation visit reflected something similar back to us: the warmth of the King's community, the quality of conversations across the College, and a clear commitment to developing young people to become compassionate, responsible global leaders. Our students engage with the Round Square IDEALS; Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership and Service, through a range of student-led committees, and we look forward to weaving these more deeply into the life of the College in the year ahead.
