Thursday 5 February 2026
The return of students to King’s has brought energy, enthusiasm and life to the school grounds. It was an honour to be handed over to the King’s community at the pōwhiri last Thursday and I am grateful for the exceptional turn out of whānau who supported the new students as we were all welcomed into the school together.
You can watch a short video of the ceremony here.
Our orientation days have helped our new students and staff to quickly adapt to the pulse and rhythms of the school, with subject classes underway and students focused and purposeful in the lessons that I have dropped into. I have tried to meet as many students as possible around the grounds and look forward to seeing them in action in the various activities that are taking place in the upcoming weeks.
House Activities
Prior to my arrival, I had heard much about the positives of the House system at the College. The fact that each student steadfastly believes that their House is far superior to others is testament that belonging runs deep and House spirit is strong. House tennis was underway at the end of the first full day, with House swimming taking place this week, and the finals this afternoon - all impressive feats of organisation and commitment from all involved. The numbers of people cheering each other on and supporting each other has been impressive and a sign of what sets King’s apart.
Traffic and Pedestrian Safety – Golf Avenue / Middlemore Road
Finally, a plea to all drivers using these roads to use indicators when coming into or leaving the College entrance at Golf Avenue. This will allow all road users to enter and exit King’s ground safely and give certainty to all road users and pedestrians in this area.
I hope you all have an enjoyable long weekend ahead.
