As I write for the second-to-last newsletter for the year, I can sense the end of the year looming. I encourage you all to be aware of the various dates and events which mark the end of the academic season including our Senior Prizegiving at Holy Trinity Cathedral at 7pm tomorrow night. It’s always a grand occasion where we recognise so many of our fabulous students and their achievements from this year.
As Year 13 students finish their examinations, they can be sure that King’s will set them up well for their future beyond the College gates. The results we have coming back including anecdotal evidence from Old Collegians and the data from Stage 1 and Stage III universities shows that our students fare well after leaving the College. All the preparation which has taken place over the past three to five years certainly comes to fruition as they receive these immediate exam results, but also through the results of every future test, challenge and achievement which occur well after they finish secondary school.
It's during this time of year that students realise that every moment counts and every lesson is important - as every opportunity of the future builds on what has gone before. As students approach the end of the year their focus come sharper especially in terms of reflecting on the past and how that influences their future. Our Year 13 students have been very active in their approach to university applications with a great number of them seeking positions at universities overseas. Last year around a third of our students left the College to study offshore, an increase from the previous cohort, so I speculate as to what the proportions might be this year. It’s a great accolade to the students, their families and the College to know that our King’s young people are clearly competitive on the world stage.
When I write to you again, it will be my last newsletter so between now and then, I will be making the most of every moment and every opportunity during my last weeks at King’s. We also encourage our Year 9, Year 10 and Year 11 students to make the most of these final weeks too, as they continue with their in the routines of the College until the end of this term.
For Year 11 students and their parents, I would encourage you to please complete the survey sent out this week as we look to glean your view of the changes we have made to the Year 11 programme. This survey will only take 2-3 minutes to complete and it’s important as we want to make sure that we’re providing the best opportunities for our Year 11 students.
