Message from our Headmaster

Thursday 20 March 2025

Kia ora Parents and Guardians,

I am very pleased with how the term has been progressing with many, many achievements, celebrations and successes. In terms of curriculum lots of our students are in assessment mode and faring well. I am pleased to note a significant number of students who are booked to attend my study session this week as I think this marks how seriously students are taking these testing times. The same can be said of the sporting and culture scene at the College with many achievements to note - in Rowing, Equestrian and Water Polo especially. I look forward to seeing the Water Polo match on Friday and will definitely be watching some of the races at Lake Karapiro next week.

Thank you to all the parents who attended the Year 9 students’ parent interviews last week. All students will have had an interim report by now. If you find that you need some support or would simply like to talk with someone, at any stage, do not hesitate to ask the College. Housemasters will know how individual students are doing academically and pastorally and Heads of Departments know the content well and will be able to advise about content and the learning of your students in a particular area.

Deputy Heads Geoff Smith (Curriculum) and Aaron Farr (Pastoral) sit above these structures and are available to take any broader questions. Do not hesitate to ask if anything is troubling you or your child. I am always available to assist and am available on email at s.lamb@kingscollege.school.nz. You can also find a comprehensive list of contacts here

We have been recruiting students for 2026 in recent weeks and will continue to have a presence in the regions and throughout Auckland promoting the College. We also went to King’s School last night where we spoke directly with students who may be thinking about King’s College. If you have any friends or family thinking about King’s, I encourage them to contact Graeme Syms, our Head of Admissions. He is available at g.syms@kingscollege.school.nz

We do, of course, have regular Campus Tours and anyone is welcome to come along to these - visitors get to see the College in action which is always the best way to see it.

I look forward to seeing you at our many upcoming events and occasions including the Friends Golf Day tomorrow. If you can’t make it, you can check out the auction for items here. We have seen a tremendous amount of support from our community this year already and we are very grateful for this.

Kind regards,

Simon Lamb

Headmaster, King's College
