From the Headmaster - Week 10

Thursday 3 April 2025

We are quick to celebrate our students’ achievements here at King's College and this is the same in every secondary school in this country. We have had many assemblies recently where we have featured heavy doses of student success and we are seeing students acknowledging their peers, being appreciative and recognising great work and achievement.

Well, we’ve had a huge week this week with the achievements of our Rowers complemented by massive achievements in Athletics, Water Polo, Crossfit, Cricket and we also have ASB Polyfest this week where our kapa haka rōpū and Pasifika group will take the stage. This is also the week of the Glee Club who have performed the Little Shop of Horrors. Another great example of our commitment here at the College to provide that Best All Round Education.

I wish to acknowledge the qualities of our students in all of this. They have shown impressive resilience as they have coped with the ups and downs of preparations, put in hours of training and experienced both success and failure in order to get where they are today. The coaches, managers, teachers and trainers, all must manage and lead our students through this process. In the case of Rowing, people like our Head of Rowing Mark Clemo and his team are instrumental in getting our teenage talent to a place where they realise their potential. Our community: leaders, staff, other students, coaches, parents, supporters, Old Collegians and families in the broadest context all play a part in this success and join the masses who congratulate, applaud and admire these achievements.

I am so impressed with this village that raises these children.  Our assembly on Friday is going to be another booming celebration of our students and their achievements. We have all the achievements above to acknowledge and appreciate and I’m looking forward to that.

Now at the end of Term 1 there is a lot on for students, as you’ll know. I was impressed with the large number of students who came along voluntarily to the study session I ran for them. The usual invitation to you as parents and carers for our students remains. If you have any concerns, questions or need some support, please don’t hesitate to contact the College. I am always available at s.lamb@kingscollege.school.nz if you’re not sure who to contact and I’ll respond directly or pass to someone more qualified than I am to answer your query.

Thank you for another great fortnight. Next time I write it will be the last week of term, it’s that close!
