Kia ora parents and guardians,
It was fantastic to see many of you at both the Lantern Festival and the Headmaster’s Garden Party last week on consecutive nights. Both evenings were superb, with the latter showing a 33% lift in attendance from 300 last year to 400 on Thursday evening. It was a great meeting of our community and we hugely appreciated this support.
Students appear to be very settled, which is great as this provides the best environment in which students can learn, and teachers can teach. This is one of the many fundamentals that enable the craft of teaching and learning to flourish.
Starting the year, especially for students who are new to the College, can bring with it challenges, so I encourage parents and guardians to contact the College early if you have any questions or concerns.
To help you with any queries you may have, you can contact the following staff members:
- Heads of Departments are responsible for the curriculum and what is taught to students in their subject area. They will be able to respond to questions about content and assessment in their curriculum area.
- Housemasters are responsible for the pastoral care of every student in their House. They will be able to respond to issues relating to students’ wellbeing and behaviour and understand how students have settled into College life so far.
- Year Level Co-ordinators track the academic performance of the students in each year, noting trends and patterns across the year group.
I provide you with a full list of contact details for these key staff members here.
Additionally, there are many other staff members who assist students and their learning and wellbeing, including those who work at our Health Centre and our Learning Centre. Above them are the Deputy Heads and they are each responsible for different portfolios as listed below:
Rob Griffiths - r.griffiths@kingscollege.school.nz - Organisation
Aaron Farr - a.farr@kingscollege.school.nz - Pastoral Systems
Geoff Smith - g.smith@kingscollege.school.nz - Curriculum
Kelly Bigwood - k.bigwood@kingscollege.school.nz - Pedagogy and Professional Development
I am also always available at s.lamb@kingscollege.school.nz.
I hope these details assist you greatly – please save them for future reference.
We are here to provide you with an exemplary service and our students a great education experience. Ultimately, we want each and every one of our students to feel comfortable, happy and productive at King's College.
Kind regards,
Simon Lamb
Headmaster, King's College
