King's College 3 vs 1 Sacred Heart College
The First XI boys bounced back from defeat to Sacred Heart College last week with a confident 3–1 home victory over Rosmini College. The challenge to the lads before kick off was simple: be ready from the first whistle. Win your first tackle, your first header, your first 1v1.
To their credit, the boys took that on board with a really positive start and found themselves 2–0 up within the opening 20 minutes. Jack Kelly (Year 11, Parnell) tapped home at the back post after some excellent work down the wing from Dylan Naicker (Year 13, Parnell). A first King's College goal for Jack Kelly and one that will no doubt give him a big confidence boost.
Dylan Naicker then got one of his own shortly after, pinching the ball from the Rosmini College centre back before calmly slotting home to make it 2–0.
From there, the boys slipped slightly into cruise mode and, helped by a penalty, Rosmini were handed a route back into the game.
Half time: 2–1.
The message at the break was a stern one: do not take your foot off the gas.
Five minutes into the second half, the two goal cushion was restored. A well worked corner routine allowed Naicker to deliver to the back post where Isaac Stredder (Year 12, Parnell) rose highest to head home.
King’s then had to defend bravely late on, throwing bodies in the way during a number of goal-mouth scrambles to secure all three points.
This was a fantastic response from the team after last week’s disappointment and now their attention turns to Glendowie away tomorrow.
