King's College First XI 5 vs 0 Glendowie College
The King’s team returned to the pitch on Friday 29 May looking to build on the previous week’s victory over Rosmini College.
They made the perfect start when Dylan Naicker (Year 13, Parnell) finished smartly at the near post to give King’s an early lead. Not long after, Lucca Stredder (Year 13, Parnell) doubled the advantage from the penalty spot after Connor Sigley (Year 13, Greenbank) was brought down following a tussle in the box.
The scoring for the first half was completed shortly before the break when Jayden Wang (Year 13, Peart) capitalised on a goalkeeping error and calmly slotted the ball into the net.
Half time: 3–0
The second-half objective was clear: continue the momentum and claw back some of the goal difference lost against Sacred Heart College.
Dylan Naicker grabbed his second goal of the afternoon to make it four, before the scoring was rounded off when Kalani Mowbray (Year 10, Selwyn) delivered a dangerous free kick that resulted in an own goal. The assist was Kalani’s second of the game on his First XI debut - a great start to the long weekend!
King's College First XI 0 vs 2 Long Bay College
Going into the game, we knew it would be a battle as not only were the weather conditions challenging, but we were also without two of our frontline players who had scored 10 goals so far this season between them.
The first half reflected the conditions, frantic and scrappy at times. King’s created the better chances and had more shots on goal, so there was a feeling of frustration as we went into the break at 0–0.
It felt like the first team to score would go on to win the game, and unfortunately that proved to be the case. Long Bay took the lead with 20 minutes remaining after finishing a ball over the top.
As King’s pushed forward in search of an equaliser, luck was not on our side. A wayward shot took two deflections before finding its way into the back of the net, sealing a 2–0 victory for Long Bay.
The lads worked incredibly hard throughout but just did not get the rub of the green on the day. A huge game awaits next week against Northcote College.
