1XI Cricket vs Macleans College

First XI Cricket Defeat Macleans College

Tuesday 27 October 2026

A great start to the sunny long weekend, our First XI Cricket team played Macleans College at King’s on Saturday and came away with a comfortable victory!

Macleans won the toss and elected to bowl, making a strong start by reducing King’s to 14–3 as the top order struggled to get going. Sammy Bamford (Year 13, Major) and Lucca Stredder (Year 13, Parnell) then combined for a valuable 70-run partnership, laying the platform for King’s College to post a competitive total of 227–9, with several players making important contributions.

Macleans College began their run chase with determination, forcing the King’s bowling attack to work hard for the early breakthroughs. At 47–2 at the first drinks break, the match was finely balanced. However, Malcolm Barrow (Year 13, School) removed their key batter, thanks to an outstanding catch at first slip from co-captain Aekkam Sarao (Year 13, Parnell), which shifted the momentum in the home side’s favour. From that point, wickets fell at regular intervals, and the visitors were eventually bowled out for 131.

Barrow was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets to cap off an excellent all-round performance with both bat and ball.

Overall, it was a comprehensive victory, with significant contributions from several players. Attention now turns to Saturday’s crucial top-of-the-table clash against traditional rivals Auckland Grammar School.

Congratulations to Hugo Bricklebank (Year 12, Averill), who was awarded his First XI baggy cap.
